Wanting to capture the perfect holiday photo of your family? I have five tips for making your Family Holiday Photo dream become a reality this holiday season.
1. Timing is everything.
Book your Family Holiday Photo session in advance, plan in advance so you know your schedule. Think about your particular family, how many kids do you have in your family? Is your family more cooperative in the morning or after lunch? Let your family know when the pictures will be and prepare them for the day.
2. Coordinate a theme.
Your photos may already be holiday-themed, but choose ahead of time what you’d like everyone to wear. Outfits don’t have to be identical, but a consistent color palette makes for an image that’s visually balanced. Think about what you want your Christmas Cards to look like? Would you like your photos to be taken outside or in a studio? Warm tones or cool tones?
3. Keep some incentives on hand.
By incentives, I mean bribes. This could be a special treat, some stickers, a fun family activity, or some extra TV time for kids. Whatever it is, keep it in your back pocket in case things get a little unruly. Another great thing is to bring your child’s favorite toy or snack. Having a couple of things on hand can make a big difference if you have little ones.
4. Just relax.
If your kids are under the age of 4, they’re probably not going to pose for very long or follow every instruction. Don’t try to tell them to smile. It will make your kids stressed and they will remember they hate taking pictures because you forced them to smile too much! By relaxing and realizing your kids will probably have ups and downs during the session you will be better prepared for the session. Trust the photographer, we are able to capture beautiful Family Holiday photos regardless of your children’s mood.
5. Hire a photographer a Family Holiday Photo!
Hiring a photographer makes it easy for you to enjoy being with your family! Thinking about setting up the tripod, kids crying, getting everyone posed and ready seems chaotic. I promise it is so worth it to just hire someone who can do it all for you. They are able to capture all of the poses in the most efficient manner. And taking your holiday family photos can even be fun and stress-free! I want you to be able to focus on getting ready and getting there and let me do the rest.
For a quick recap, first, schedule your pictures at a good time. Next, coordinate your outfits and bring incentives for your husband and children. Last, just relax, smile, and trust the photographer to do their job.
